How do I join?

How can I join TEAM COLLIN?
There are several ways for you to participate!

1. Run or walk with our team!

Register for the race at http://www.runtherock.com/There is a marathon (26.2 miles), a half-marathon (13.1 miles), & a 5 person relay (4-6 mile segments). (A portion of the registration fee goes to Scottish Rite.)
When you register to run, there will NOT be a place to indicate you are on Team Collin. You are on Team Collin if you are wearing a Team Collin shirt and supporting Collin by running or cheering from the sidelines! Please email once you have registered with all your contact information atcollincan@rocketmail.com

2. Be a spectator!
Wear your shirt & cheer on the runners wearing Team Collin shirts at the race! (See
http://www.runtherock.com/for course information & best cheering spots!)

3. Donate online!
Help us raise money for Scottish Rite by donating online in Collin's honor (www.active.com/donate/tsrh10/CollinCan) (If you are running the race but want to make an additional contribution in Collin's honor- go to the link above to do so.)

4. Be on the "Home" Team!
Wear your shirt at home on December 5th & help us spread awareness about Scottish Rite in your community. Your support is important to us - wherever you are!

A Special Thanks!

I wanted to take a minute to post a special thanks to Blogs By Mandy! I ran across her blog online as I was looking at someone else's and was so impressed by her heart to give back. Mandy designs blogs and donates a portion of her profits to different non profit charities each month. I contacted Mandy about helping design the Team Collin blog and not only did she donate her time and talent to create the Team Collin blog for me she is also donating 100% of her profits in the month of November for TSRHC in Collin's honor. So if you are needing a new blog design she is the person to see and if you have it done in the month of November 100% of it will go towards Team Collin's donation to TSRHC. Thanks so much Mandy, you did an incredible job!

Welcome to TEAM COLLIN

Hi, welcome to the TEAM COLLIN blog! This is the founding year of TEAM COLLIN, and believe me, you want to join. On December 5, 2010 we will be running the Dallas White Rock Marathon to raise money and awareness for Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.

Our second son, Collin, was born on May 11, 2009 with a rare condition called Amniotic Band Syndrome, affecting fingers on both hands and his left wrist. Amniotic Band Syndrome(ABS) also called Amniotic Constriction Band Syndrome is a set of congenital birth defects believed to be caused by entrapment of fetal parts (usually a limb or digits) in fibrous amniotic bands while in utero. In other words:  Before the baby was born the body part(s) that was affected by ABS (arm, fingers, toes, etc.,) was caught up and entangled in string-like bands.  This caused abnormalities that were present at birth.

He became a patient at Scottish Rite when he was only 3 weeks old to have his hands evaluated. He has since been back twice and will have his first of at least four surgeries in September of this year. Scottish Rite provides care to the children of Texas without charging their families a single penny. For 85 years, Scottish Rite has provided care to Texas children for free. As a mother of one of these families, I cannot express what a gift this free care has been throughout these emotional and stressful times.

The Dallas White Rock Marathon's main beneficiary is Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. So we have committed to run, raise money, and bring awareness to this amazing place that does amazing things for families like ours everyday!

Our goal is to have 50+ runners and raise $5000 to donate to Scottish Rite in Collin's honor as a way to give back for everything they have and will do for Collin and other children who need their care! But don't worry if you are not a runner, there are several ways to join Team Collin. (Just click on the link above that says Join our Team)
